Sustainable YOU Conference set for October 24-25

PRESS RELEASE -- With a primary goal of providing citizens a wealth of information on sustainability issues, Tallahassee will host the 2011 Sustainable YOU conference Oct. 24-25. Sponsored by the City of Tallahassee and Leon County in partnership with Sustainable Florida, the conference will take place at Florida State University's Turnbull Center.

Airport Funfest & BBQ Challenge

PRESS RELEASE -- Community Invited to Airport Funfest & BBQ Challenge. To celebrate our hometown airport and help kick off the 2012 United Way campaign, the Tallahassee Regional Airport is hosting a special daylong family-friendly event on Saturday, October 1. The Airport Funfest & BBQ Challenge will be held from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. at the Compass Pointe facility located at 3256 Capital Circle SW (just west of the Ivan Munroe terminal). The event is free to the public and will feature a newly sanctioned Florida BBQ Competition, kids’ activities, live music performances, aircraft rides and displays, car displays, food and beverage concessions, arts and crafts and loads of family fun.

7 days of opening nights URBAN BUZZ - Running from Feb. 11 to Feb. 21, Seven Days of Opening Nights will offer a unique combination of performances and exhibits ranging from beloved entertainer Bill Cosby to acclaimed singer-songwriter Randy Newman, and from tap-dancing virtuoso Savion Glover to celebrity chef and bestselling author Anthony Bourdain.

Illuminate Tallahassee

EVENT - UrbanTallahassee is proud to lend our assistance to a new initiative to enhance Tallahassee's image and bring life to our growing downtown area. Our staff has worked closely in partnership with other local organizations and the Knight Creative Communities Initiative to build IlluminateTallahassee.com.

The concept of the project: Artfully decorating signature buildings downtown with lights that can be illuminated for special events, holidays, concerts, or just because...

But first we've got to figure out how to power the illuminations, so we've announced a competition which involves enlisting the help of Florida, Georgia, and Alabama Colleges and Universities in the development of a power source in exchange for a prize of $5,000.
