When the widening the western portion of Capital Circle from I-10 to just south of W. Tennessee Street in Tallahassee began, few could imagine a storm water management system could become this multi-purpose masterpiece. A man made pond meant to mitigate flooding from nearby expanding roadways and new sidewalks could easily have been fenced off and forgotten, however, thanks to Blueprint 2000, the Florida Department of Transportation, Leon County, the Northwest Florida Water Management District, and the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, a simple idea to put a new hole in the ground became a beautiful man made pond, wrapped by a wide paved walking trail, bench seating areas, ample lighting, and beautiful Tallahassee-style landscaping.
If you ask anyone about parks in Tallahassee, they will probably tell you to visit: Lake Ella, Tom Brown, Winthrop, or a few select others. Tallahassee is a city of wonderful parks, and the large ones are great for a day trip, a bike ride, a hike or even a round of disc golf. However today I'd like to share with you some of Tallahassee’s smaller recreation areas, or pocket parks.
