URBAN UPDATE - Sometimes we find it easier to let the pictures speak for themselves when doing these updates, but for this update we'll add a few words. Some of you who follow the updates monthly will notice there is some overlap between this update and the most recent downtown Urban Update published within the past few months. This is often done to give us the most up-to-date progress on projects or because staff forgot something the last time around. Admittedly, the southwest update takes us very close to downtown and the lure of the high-rise buildings is sometimes too much to resist.
Since our last visit FSU's 6th Parking Garage has really taken form. Most of the structure is now up and it is clear to many who know FSU campus that the newest parking garage is perhaps the most attractive parking structure on campus. Pair this with its proximity to Doak Campbell Stadium and it is easy to see how this garage might become a hot ticket for the Seminole Boosters as well. Does anyone know if the Boosters and the University have a deal on the funding of this garage??
Staying on FSU campus, the Wildwood II dorms appear to be complete on the exterior, we've even heard rumblings that they are occupied yet fencing remains on the back side of the building suggesting there is still work yet to be done. Just across from the Wildwood Dorms the massive FSU Wellness Center is fully framed with bricks and other materials now being added to the exterior.
Along the Gaines Street Corridor, the much anticipated College Town project is now underway! And for those wondering what will become of the rest of the now industrial-looking Madison Street we need only suggest -- Chance... Chance Partner's that is! This group of developers already responsible for quality student housing infill projects such as the VUE, Avenues, Paces, Elements near FSU's Southgate area is looking to add an additional housing project to Madison Street known simply as DOMAIN.
A bit further from the heart of the city, the widening of Capital Circle South (or Southwest) is in full gear, so too is the construction of the new HondaJet dealership near the Tallahassee Regional Airport. How many cities do you know that can boast of a Honda Car Dealership, Motorcycle Dealership, AND Jet dealership?! Tallahassee is truly on the verge of something special.
These projects and many others in the Southwest Quadrant are included in this report. Take your time to browse these pages to learn what's coming soon to Florida's Capital City or what might have recently opened. Don't forget to drop us a note to let us know about any observations you've made about these projects and Tallahassee's growth. And don't forget to tell a friend or two about us!
